Les Chalets duTarn is a bit of a local camping secret. Cut into a gorge at Pont de Lincou, where the River Tarn idles gently by, the site is located right next to the Château de Lincou and enjoys a scenic, yet tucked away, feel.
Run by Valérie and Frédéric, who came here in a bid to escape Paris and find a good life in the countryside, it has 15 chalets and 21 pleasant pitches scattered among a thicket of forest trees. The feel of the site is slightly rambling and old- fashioned when compared to many modern French sites, but it’s a homely and surprisingly cosmopolitan kind of place.
People tend to congregate around the reception area, where you can enjoy pizza, paella, chicken, and regional specialities a few days a week. You can relax in a hammock, or play boules or table tennis in one of the two play areas.
Local villages, such as Lincou, will charm you, as will other nearby attractions such as Brousse- le-Château, one of the most beautiful villages in all France, Roupeyrac’s old mill and – one for the cheese-lovers – the Roquefort caves.
