Calling all water babies – Roadford Lake campsite is, as the name suggests, situated right on the shore of a lake stretching across 730 acres of mid Devon.
There are boatloads of opportunities here for campers to immerse themselves in outdoor activities – either on the water in kayaks, canoes, dinghies, and on water skis or around the water’s edge on walks, cycle routes, and bridleways. Craft and equipment can be hired or folk are welcome to bring their own; and private tuition and ‘taster’ courses are on offer at the friendly onsite centre.
The atmosphere at Roadford is exuberant, as wetsuit-clad campers and visitors stroll around the place with happy smiles on their faces having spent a few hours developing their sea legs on the lake, or sit relaxing by the BBQ after a day moseying around this quiet quarter of Devon.
The campsite has many pitches, but they’re spread across a number of small fields broken up by tall hedges to give them a more intimate feel than you might think they’d have. The field next to the lake is the one to aim for, right on the shore and offering a fantastic panorama of the reservoir, with its boats ready and waiting for you to climb aboard.
