Fowden Farm Holidays

Peace, seclusion and a slice of rural scenery all your own

Peace, seclusion and a slice of rural scenery are common features when you’re looking for a good campsite, but at certain little places these are far more than just buzzwords. The Acron Yurt at Fowden Farm is just such a site, where privacy is guaranteed by one simple fact: there is only one yurt and nothing but countryside for miles around.

A short stroll away from a horse-breeding farm in rural Herefordshire, the Acorn Yurt is a romantic haven enclosed amid a field of long grass. Spectacular views stretch far across the surroundings to the wooded hills in the distance, shrouding the nearby attraction of Croft Castle. Through the yurt's large circular window, the same spectacle can be enjoyed from the comfort of your large double bed. The décor has a luxury, slightly French, feel with a silver vanity table and mirror, bedside tables and a pair of leather seats where you can nestle down with a good book. As is de rigueur for any self-respecting countryside yurt, there is a toasty wood-burning stove with a basket of logs awaiting your arrival. Strike a match, get it glowing and you can hide away in the comforts of this abode for hours.

A private loo is situated behind, while directly next to the yurt a wooden cabin houses a quaint little kitchen. Despite being off-grid, it's an amazingly well-equipped space with a sink and running water, gas hobs, plenty of cupboards, a cool box, and all the utensils and crockery you’ll need during your stay. The two part stable door opens out to a fenced off area of mown grass with a wooden table and chairs, the perfect place to enjoy an evening’s bottle of wine. If you do crave a little electricity then wander back towards the farmhouse where guests have access to the garage that has been converted into a functional space for charging phones, stashing food in the fridge or drying your hair, wet from the private shower room that’s found opposite.

While Fowden Farm is certainly a place to escape the rat race of everyday life, its picturesque rural setting need not cut you off completely. It is a six-minute drive to Croft Castle, a thousand year old manor house surrounded by endless acres of ancient woodland, while 15 minutes more takes you to Ludlow, one of the most picturesque towns in the west. Its crowd of preserved black-and-white half-timbered buildings cluster around a craggy stone castle, with a number of excellent restaurants making it something of a gastronomic gem. Spend an evening here, wining and dining, before heading back to the seclusion of your luxury, fleece-lined yurt, the perfect place to enjoy the pollution-free night sky.
