The Snug and Hut at Park Farm

Daventry, Warwickshire, England
1 acre hosted by Jill ?.
Two gorgeous hideaway huts for the price of one – snug by name, snug by nature

The Snug and Hut are the perfect glamping double act. They’re like the Sooty and Sweep of the glamping world, the Torville and Dean of top class comfort, the Laurel and Hardy of nights beneath the stars. And like any great double act they have their own distinct characters, bouncing perfectly off each other. The Snug, as the name suggests, is the warm, fuzzy one, with a friendly face and open arms, while The Hut is the practically minded side of the pair – the one that gets stuff done. The laughs, the energy and the entertainment you’ll have to bring yourselves – they’re a bit more wooden than double acts of old – but when it comes to glamping The Snug and Hut are difficult to upstage.

Paired beneath ancient oaks in the grounds of Park Farm, on the Warwickshire-Northamptonshire border, this duo of delightful shepherd’s huts can only be booked as a pair, since The Snug is the only unit providing accommodation. With its plush double bed and wood-burning stove, it’s a truly romantic hideout, while a sofa can also be converted in to bunk beds to create a convenient family spot. Hop, skip and jump a couple of yards to The Hut and you’ll find that practical side. Through the stable-style door this kitchen, dining and living area acts as an extension of indoor space – the ideal answer to the problem of keeping shepherd’s huts small and traditional while still offering roomy accommodation. It’s the perfect combination and, with all the mod cons and a fully-fitted kitchenette, there really is everything you need for a week's self-catered stay. Best of all, once the littl'uns are all tucked up safely in their cosy bunks – the day spent den-building having left them suitably sleepy – Mum and Dad can slip next door for that relaxing glass of wine.

It's the small, personal touches that really shine here though – there’s an OS map in The Hut with a few notes so you can trace out a little cycle route, taking in the quiet country lanes a couple of the local pubs; if you’re running late you can ask for a pre-cooked meal to be stuck in the fridge for your arrival; and Jill's legendary homebaked goodies are the perfect welcome treat. Perhaps most delightful of all is that on colder, winter days, arrivals often appear to an already glowing wood-burner, lit prior to your arrival to put 'the snug' in The Snug before you even get there!

Nearby, there's a handful of National Trust houses and gardens to be discovered, and historic towns like Warwick and Stratford-Upon-Avon are similarly close at hand. A lot of the joy here, however, comes from really retreating back into the farm itself – a quiet place to shelter from busy life. Buy some of their own produce for toasting on the barbie and uncork a bottle of plonk for enjoying alongside – another winning double act in the world of happy glamping!

From the host
A singular, snug glamping hideaway on a working beef and sheep farm on the Warwickshire-Northamptonshire border. Park Farm is located on one of England's oldest privately owned country estates and is approached by a mile long drive. Enjoy spotting the many different varieties of wildlife along the way and on your arrival, glimpse the Snug and Hut tucked away under the Oaks.
Nearby attractions
If you want to stay closer to home there is a detailed Ordnance Survey map of the area in The Snug, perfect for planning walks or cycle routes directly from the farm. Elsewhere there is plenty of heritage and history within a half hour drive; Warwick Castle (08712 652000) and the surrounding old town; Coventry Cathedral (02476 521200); Althorp House (01604 770107) and Charlecote Park (01789 470277), while Shakespeare's Stratford-Upon-Avon is more like 40 minutes away. The National Trust-owned, Canons Ashby (01327 861900) is also worth a visit. Around 25 minutes south of the campsite this tranquil Elizabethan manor house is set in beautiful 18th-century gardens – set some time aside to properly explore.
Food and drink
As well as self catering, Jill leaves a few baked goodies waiting upon arrival. You can organise a basket of breakfast provisions featuring farm-reared and local produce, collect eggs from the nearby chicken coop and if you're arriving late, book an evening meal, which will be left in your fridge for you to heat up at your leisure. Couples can even order a luxury hamper featuring a half bottle of champagne. The kitchen comes with all the basics including tea, coffee, sugar, and olive oil. Elsewhere, there are two good pubs in nearby Napton on the Hill – The Kings Head (01926 812202) and The Folly (01926 815185) – plus The Old Olive Bush (01788 891134) in Flecknoe and The Countryman (01327 311815) in Staverton. All are around 3 miles from the site.
