Camping Milin Kerhé

Brittany, Brittany

Tranquil waterside camping in the heart of Brittany
On and around the Brittany coastline has no shortage of cool camping destinations. But Camping Milin Kerhé stands out from the pack. Not many campsites can boast such an idyllic setting; pristine terraced fields hugged lovingly by enchanting woodland with a majestic, salmon-rich river meandering languidly through.

Camping Milin Kerhé is the very picture of tranquility. The general laid-back air of the place is mirrored in the camping options on offer. Want to pitch up your tent? No problem; fancy rocking up in a VW relic-on-wheels? Go ahead; too lazy for all those pegs and guy-ropes? Rent one of the spacious and quirky hanging tents slung up in the woodland! Moreover, there’s more than enough onsite fun to please everyone, from kayaking and nature trails to volleyball and boules.

It’s all easy to take for granted once you’ve been here for more than a few moments. The setting simply lends itself to the kind of campsite this is – laid back, relaxed and wonderfully natural – simply thinking of a rowdy holiday park should be a criminal offence. Instead, the beautiful river Trieux slides calmly past, sparkling in the French sunlight and catching your eye as you try to peacefully work through the new book you’ve been reading. It couldn’t be further than the swarming Euro-camp parks that have popped up in recent years – and that’s just the way we like it.

The Trieux shouldn’t hold back tiny campers either. For those worried about the river, there is a fence separating the pitches from the water and for most of the summer it’s families that form the bulk of the customers here. The resulting atmosphere is wonderfully social, with little ones quick to breach any language barriers with a lively game of volleyball or a bit of hide and seek amongst the trees.

The all round bonhomie of the place is largely down to your amazingly welcoming hosts Jonathan and Margareth Low. Their hospitality knows no bounds and their midweek evening BBQs are the stuff of legends! Breathe it in folks, breathe it in...

From the host
"If you are looking for 5 stars, a water park and a booming discotheque then Milin Kerhé is definitely not for you. However, if you would like to see thousands of stars above a bubbling river, to the intermittent owl toot then it might be just what you are looking for." Hello, this is Jon and Maggie, the campsite owners. As we hope to put across above, Milin Kerhé is not for everyone, which is just as well, as we tend to attract a great type of camper, who respects and appreciates the surrounding nature and calm, and embraces the outdoor opportunities available around the site. The beautiful Trieux, which runs through the site, offers lots of opportunities. Some like to chill out with a book in a hammock by the river, whilst some like to wade along it, trying their hand at flyfishing. Others may prefer to use one of the kayaks, SUPS or the rowing boat, but most just want to get right in and have a good swim or splash. We also recommend the paths along the river and up over the valley sides, if you are into walking or mountain biking. We often find campers alternately spend a day around the campsite and then a day visiting elsewhere. Despite being inland, there is a huge choice of beautiful beaches and interesting rocky coastlines within an easy drive. The Pink Granite Coast is a must see, despite the hoards of visitors it receives. For something calmer, come and see us in the reception and we will tell you our personal reccommendations. We receive all ages on the site, but during the summer we mostly have young families joining us. For those worried about the river, there is a fence separating the pitches from the water. Despite differences in nationality, between playing with the animals, splashing around in the river and being invited for marshmallows at the neighbour’s campfire, the children seem to soon make friends. We do have spaces for a limited number of campers and caravans, but we are primarily a traditional campsite for people who love sleeping in tents. We are proud to say that we have no mobile homes or chalets and never intend to. We now offer soething rarther novel, for those who want to try something very different…no you won’t guess… It’s a double decker, hanging, trampoline, tree tent (ideas for a shorter name welcome). This can be found hanging in the woodland above the campsite with its own outdoor kitchen and and compositing toilet. During the high season, most evenings there will be a fairly low key event/activity that may be of interest you such bat spotting, a guided hike, mountain bike ride, night hike and a traditional cider making talk/demonstration/tasting. There is also the famous once weekly raft race, which never fails to to bring a laugh. There is a food wagon, which serves pizzas, galettes, hamburgers etc, each night of the week. and we also hold a big BBQ one evening each week which is great fun and an excellent way for campers to mingle. It is traditionally followed by a plunge in the river for the brave and foolish or else traditional Breton games for those who prefer to stay dry. If you have any questions or would like to make a booking, please feel free to send us an email. We still have remaining pitches for 2017 and it would be great to have you join us. Jon and Maggie
