Somerset Garden Yurt and Gypsy Cara…

West Lyng, Somerset, England

A magical secret garden for your own exclusive use

From the moment you arrive at Iain and Sarah’s house – the delightfully named Cobweb Cottage – it’s quite clear that this place is something a bit special. As you walk up through a wooded glade flanked by red and white painted stone toadstools, a ridiculously pretty wildflower meadow, enclosed on two sides by hedgerows and on the other by the Taunton and Bridgewater canal, edges into view.

Pride of place is a gorgeous bowtop caravan, featuring a sumptuous interior with deep red silks, tassles and bows, while the equally attractive bentwood framed yurt is fashioned in similar style, though fully carpeted and with scatter cushions, rugs and throws dotted around for good measure.

Your hosts have pretty much thought of everything, from the modern log cabin containing a shower, loo and well-equipped kitchen, to a superb open-fronted barn with lots of kick-back and soak-up-the-atmosphere style seating. Meanwhile, the large concrete fire-pit encircled by dinky wooden stools is just the job for a communal huddle. But the best bit? You’ll have the whole shebang to yourself, as the policy here is that you book the site lock, stock and barrel, which makes it the perfect hideaway for families (big or small) or group of friends.
