Slap bang on the shores of Loch Lomond in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park
If you want to try glamping on the shores of Loch Lomond itself, then the wonderfully tranquil site of Milarrochy Bay is perhaps the place for you, situated in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, right on the water. Waking up to peel back the canvas and enjoy the stunning views, framed by the tree-shaded shoreline and dappled with early morning sun, is unbeatable, and with the site’s two new, comfortable pre-pitched tents, you have everything you need already waiting: two bedrooms with proper beds (they can sleep four adults or a family of six), a fully stocked kitchenette and an extending living area with an outside verandah to really make the most of those views.

The campsite – a long established spot that has only recently added this new glamping getup – is naturally very popular with walkers, a lot of them hiking the West Highland Way footpath that runs nearby, while climbers also come for Ben Lomond, the highest mountain in the area.

The site’s second appeal, however, is to boaters and canoeists making the most of its waterside position. Much closer to the water and you’d be swimming. It's also a perfect place to do pretty much nothing at all – beyond sitting back and soaking up the gorgeous views across the Loch.

South of the campsite, in Balloch, you can enjoy a guided hike from the Loch Lomond Shores visitor centre and shops, or enjoy a wide range of cruises, some calling in at the Loch’s many islands. There's also the Sea Life Centre and Balloch Castle and Country Park. Or just hire a kayak, canoe or pedal boat – again from Loch Lomond Shores – and make the most of the Loch that way. Boat launching and storage is available on the site, and canoes, kayaks and windsurfers can be launched free of charge.

Your time spent…where it matters Time away with family & friends is great, but let’s be honest - it can sometimes be hectic to even think about! Ready Camp takes away some of the stresses and hassles of camping - having a pre-erected, canvas-wrapped haven with real beds, a kitchen and dining area. There’s no need to fill the car rammed to the rafters with an endless supply of ‘just in cases’. We give you back the time to do the fun things together with your friends and family. Pack your bedding & a sense of adventure Walk into a comfortable haven with cosy furnishings and oodles of little luxuries.  With two bedrooms, an open plan living/dining area where you can wine and dine to your hearts content or put your feet up on the comfy settee after a long day’s adventure. The Kitchen area includes a fridge, microwave and hob, along with basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. (We’ve even supplied the corkscrew!) When it comes to light’s out…we’ve even included a torch for those midnight toilet trips, or just to make funny shadows on the tent!
Nearby attractions
There's excellent hiking in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park: a great way to explore is to follow part of the West Highlands Way, a spectacular 96-mile walking trail that starts at Milngavie and rambles past the site along the shores of Loch Lomond through Glen Falloch to the head of Glencoe and then up the Devil’s Staircase to its finishing point in Fort William. If you fancy a challenge you could take a crack at scaling Ben Lomond, the region's highest peak, which you can reach by following the West Highlands Way north towards Rowardennan. If you don't fancy going it alone, there are a number of guided hikes available south of the campsite from the Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Centre (01389 751031). There's also the Sea Life Centre here (01389 721500) and the rest of Balloch Country Park to explore (01389 758134). If you want to get out on the water, you can hire canoes, pedal boats and kayaks at Loch Lomond Shores, or take it much easier with a boat trip or a short cruise to visit the Loch's smattering of islands (01389 752376).
Food and drink
Loch Lomond Shores is home to Café Zest (01389 722200), which serves great breakfasts and light lunches and makes the most of the spectacular views. The family-run Stables, on the edge of Balloch's small centre (01389 752148), does a varied menu that takes in steaks and burgers, pies, local mussels and Scottish specialities such as haggis and cullen skink. Cucina (01389 755455) is a decent Italian restaurant near the station in Balloch. East of Balloch at Blairquhosh, the Glengoyne Distillery (01360 550254) offers whisky tours and tastings.
