Eco-friendly yurt glamping in the Conwy Valley on the edge of Snowdonia National Park

With so much of the region's fascinating past woven into its majestic scenery, which stretches from the North Wales coastline right through to rural Snowdonia, the Conwy Valley provides the ultimate backdrop to any camping adventure. The impressive mountain ranges, serene lakes, and primitive moorlands never fail to capture the hearts of visitors, and create a unique collection of natural beauty that must be seen to be believed.

Deep in the Conwy Valley and set amongst a 16 acre smallholding is Cae Wennol Yurts, an eco-friendly glamping site that strikes the perfect balance between luxury and rustic living. Guests soon realise the sites approachable owners (Avril & Dyan) were eager to create a magical, relaxing retreat where visitors can enjoy a self-sustainable environment that’s rich in wildlife. And here at Hipcamp; we think they’ve succeeded.

The 3 Mongolian Yurts (Seren, Heddwch, and new recruit Celynnin), are vibrantly painted with striking colours on the inside and out. Each dwelling comes lovingly furnished in a relaxed and romantic way with a comfy double bed, wooden floors, homey rugs, comfy cushions, and a log burner – perfect for keeping warm on a chilly North Wales night.

The Yurts can be found nestled by an idyllic nature garden where guests can sit under the shade of a tall silver birch and watch the dragonflies buzz gingerly around the water lilies. The site is also home to many feathered friends, with mallards (and their young), herons, red kites, and buzzards regularly circling above.

It may feel like a chore to drag yourself away from such a restful environment, but do try and make the most of exploring this wonderful part of Wales. Luckily Cae Wennol Yurts is perfectly positioned to do just that.

Food and drink

Conwy is famous for it’s seafood, especially it’s mussels and has many fine eating establishments. For some traditional fish and chips, head to Archway Restaurant (01492 592458) for a great value meal. Food is freshly cooked and the portion sizes generous – what more could you want from a chippy? Only a short walk away (at The Conwy Water Gardens) is The Dutch Pancake House (01492 650063), a cosy venue offering sweet and savoury pancakes. Try the tasty “Welsh Beauty” (slices of apple, whipped cream, topped with rum & raisin ice-cream.) Don’t go on a Monday, it’s closed. The Ty Gwyn Inn Rowen is a traditional Welsh country pub located in one of Conwy’s most pretty and rural villages. As for food, the friendly staff serve up tasty garlic mushrooms, and for mains there’s a liver special, shepherds pie, or peppered pork. There's also a Tesco supermarket at Llandudno Junction (only a 10 minute drive away), or you can pre-order your groceries for delivery.
